Written and directed by Lee Galea, Single, Out is an Australian low-budget LGBTQ+ youth drama series about Adam – a wannabe artist and part-time car washer, who comes out as gay to his family following his first sexual experience. The show stars Will Hutchins, Steven Christou, Adam Mountain, Ryan Stewart and Jake Hyde, and if you’ve not caught it yet, but you have room in your life for an independent production, now is a good time to give it a go.
I reviewed the first season of Single, Out over on It’s A Stampede!, and said: “Single, Out is an enjoyable show with plenty to offer. If you can overlook its budget limitations, it’s not too difficult to get invested in the series…”
The show is available on streaming, but it is also available in the UK on Region 2/Region 4 DVD from all good retailers. The first season includes six episodes, along with a few bonus features, and comes in a single case, which boasts an eye-catching shot of Adam (Will Hutchins) on the front cover.

On the back cover you’ll find another image of Adam, along with the following synopsis:
‘Following Adam’s first sexual experience, his life is changed forever. Whilst juggling his job, a passion for art and new relationships he learns to come to terms with leaving the closeted single life. Growing up that fast is a balancing act between trying to keep everyone else happy and being true to himself.
‘Being single was easy. Being out is hard.’

The Single, Out: Season One DVD from Matchbox Films doesn’t contain much more than the episodes (this is an independent production after all), but it does include a few bits and pieces you won’t find on streaming. In total, the DVD includes the following:
- A copy of Single, Out: Season One
- Deleted scenes
- Bloopers
- Trailer
It’s also worth noting that because this is an independent production, it may prove more difficult to come by the show in the future, if you rely on streaming alone. If Single, Out title tickles your pickle in any way, then DVD is a good investment here.
