I’ve previously spoken about the X-Men movie collection boxset, as well as a boxset containing the Deadpool movies, and now it is time to turn my attention to 2017’s Logan. For those unfamiliar with the film, Logan is the third solo Wolverine film, and until Hugh Jackman reprised the role of Wolverine for 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, it was set to be the final time Jackman would play the part.

And because Logan was initially conceived as Jackman’s swansong, when it came time to release the film on home video, the movie was blessed with a number of releases including a rather spiffy limited edition steelbook. The steelbook not only contained a copy of the movie, it also came bundled with a black-and-white edition of the film titled Logan: Noir.

As you’ll see from the photos above, the biggest selling point of this edition was the steelbook, which featured comic book-style artwork on the exterior from artist Steve McNiven. The regular (non-steelbook) edition of Logan featured a photo of Hugh Jackman (the same image on the disc), and was far less exciting.

The steelbook also came with a copy of Logan: Noir – a black-and-white edition of the film. Essentially the same movie, only colourless, Logan: Noir came housed inside a cardboard sleeve.

Personally I’m not a fan of the cardboard sleeve approach, as the card can scratch the disc, however, I am a big fan of Logan: Noir. And as the standard edition of the Blu-ray did not include Logan: Noir, this was another reason to pick up the steelbook.

Here’s what the Logan steelbook includes:

  • A limited edition steelbook featuring artwork by Steve McNiven
  • A HD copy of Logan (disc 1)
  • A HD copy of Logan: Noir (disc 2)
  • A digital download copy of Logan
  • Audio commentary by director James Mangold
  • Deleted scenes
  • Making Logan
  • Theatrical trailers

This steelbook release of Logan was exclusive to HMV, was limited edition, and is no longer available to buy on the direct market (it sold out pretty quickly back in 2017). If you wish to add one of these to your collection today you will need to track one down on the secondary market.

The good thing is (at the moment), they are not too expensive and do pop-up on eBay from time-to-time. Simply keep an eye-out for one, and it shouldn’t be long before you can get your hands on a copy.

If you’re an X-Men fan, and you want to add a Logan Blu-ray to your physical media collection, it’s certainly worth considering this edition. Not only is the steelbook a work of beauty, but the release also includes that all-important edition of Logan: Noir, which doesn’t appear to be streaming anywhere in the UK – not even on Disney+!
